market rat

A term, especially from the 1990s, for the kids and teenagers who loitered around the stoops, shops, and brick streets of the Old Market district in downtown Omaha. It described a youth subculture tied to that specific historic neighborhood. The expression is local to Omaha and its dialect lore.
