Dialectly is a non-profit dictionary of how Americans actually talk — regional words, sayings, and the stories behind them. It's run by a tiny team and a growing roster of contributors. We can't pay you, but we'd love your help.
What you might help with
- Socials — Instagram, TikTok, Threads. Pick one and run with it. Best fit for someone who already enjoys posting and wants a theme that's not "their life."
- Blog & long-form — short essays on a single word's history, regional language deep-dives, interviews with locals. One post a month is plenty.
- Community — moderate suggestions, reply to comments, help verify regions for new words.
- Outreach — reach out to linguistics departments, regional historical societies, podcast hosts.
- Something else — you spotted a gap we didn't list, you have a skill that fits. Tell us.
