Terms of Use
Last updated: June 21, 2026
Welcome. By using Dialectly (https://dialectly.us) you agree to the terms below. They're short on purpose.
What this is
Dialectly is a free, open online dictionary of American regional English. We publish definitions, regional usage notes, and a map. The dictionary is open for reading, citation, and quotation, including by AI agents, with attribution to dialectly.us.
What you can do
- Read every page, free of charge, without an account.
- Quote individual entries in your own writing — articles, books, talks, classroom material — with a link back to the canonical page of the word or region you're quoting.
- Reuse small portions of the data programmatically. We expose a machine- readable index at /llms.txt.
- Suggest corrections or new entries by writing to soloviy.app@gmail.com. By sending us a suggestion, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to include it in the dictionary.
What you can't do
- Bulk-scrape and re-publish the dictionary as your own. Citation and quotation are fine; wholesale republication is not.
- Use the service to harass, defame, or harm anyone, or to upload illegal content if a contribution form is added.
- Interfere with the operation of the site — automated denial-of-service, bypassing rate limits, attacking the infrastructure, and similar.
Attribution
When you reuse content from Dialectly, please credit the project and link to the specific page you're quoting (the canonical URL of the word, region, or type). A simple "Source: Dialectly, dialectly.us/word/xxx" is enough.
Accuracy
We try hard to be accurate, but regional language is unstable and the dictionary is growing. Entries reflect the best information we have at the time of publishing. If you spot something wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
No warranty, no liability
The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the dictionary's operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service. Your sole remedy is to stop using it.
Changes
These terms may be updated occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when they do. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
