What does “tornado alley” mean

Informal name for the swath of the central United States, generally northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska, where tornadoes are most frequent and severe. Coined in 1952 by U.S. Air Force meteorologists Ernest J. Fawbush and Robert C. Miller.
