What does “tavern” mean
Crumbly seasoned ground beef piled on a plain bun, usually with mustard, pickles and chopped onion. Credited to David Heglin of Sioux City, Iowa in 1924; in southeastern South Dakota and western Iowa it's just called 'a tavern' (elsewhere 'loosemeat' or 'Maid-Rite'). Outsiders almost always assume you mean the building.
