What does “Bugeater” mean
A historic nickname for Nebraskans and the University of Nebraska athletic teams before 'Cornhuskers' was adopted in 1900. It originated from the grasshopper plagues and droughts of the 1870s, when settlers were said to be reduced to eating bugs. It survives today as a nostalgic, self-deprecating piece of Nebraska heritage and the name of a brewery and other businesses.
