What does “Borrow pit” mean
The drainage ditch running along the side of a road; also rendered 'barrow pit.' In Montana people do not drive into a ditch, they go into the borrow pit. The term originally referred to the pit dug to 'borrow' fill dirt for building up the roadbed.
