Jojo

A jojo is a thick potato wedge battered with seasoned flour and pressure-fried, typically in the same vat as fried chicken at grocery-store delis, gas stations, and pizza joints. Reportedly invented in the late 1950s by Flavor-Crisp salesman Nick Nicewonger as a demo for his fryer, jojos became a fixture of the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana) plus Alaska and a handful of other pockets. Order 'potato wedges' anywhere east of the Rockies and nobody knows what you mean.
