What does “sand plum” mean
The sand plum (or sandhill plum, Prunus angustifolia) is a small tart wild plum that grows on sandy prairie across Kansas and was named the official state fruit in 2022. Kansans harvest it from roadside thickets to make prized jams and jellies, a tradition dating to pioneer days. The fruit and the jelly are strongly associated with rural Kansas.
