What does “Return Day” mean
A uniquely Delaware tradition held in Georgetown, the Sussex County seat, two days after each general election, dating to the 1790s when voters returned to town to hear results read aloud. Winners and losers ride together, a hatchet is ceremonially buried in sand, and an ox roast is served on the town circle. It has been a Delaware half-day holiday since 1965.
