Santa Ana winds

Strong, bone-dry katabatic winds that pour out of the Great Basin and accelerate as they squeeze through canyon passes toward the Southern California coast. They drop humidity to single digits, push fire danger to extreme, and have been the engine behind nearly every major LA-area firestorm. Angelenos blame them for everything from headaches to bad moods.
