What does “Diablo winds” mean
The Bay Area's cousin to the Santa Anas: hot, dry northeast winds that race down off the Coast Ranges and Sierra foothills, usually in fall when vegetation is at its driest. The term took off after the 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm and is now used routinely during Red Flag warnings around the Bay. PG and E shutoffs are often timed to Diablo events.
