What does “chislic” mean
Bite-size cubes of red meat (traditionally mutton or lamb) deep-fried rare, salted, and served with toothpicks and soda crackers as a bar snack. Likely brought to Hutchinson County by Crimean immigrant John Hoellwarth in the 1870s; the word descends from Turkic 'shashlik.' Declared South Dakota's official state 'nosh' in 2018 and effectively unknown outside the Dakotas.
