What does “the Sip” mean

Shorthand pulled from the middle of 'MississSIPpi', 'the Sip' (sometimes 'the Sipp') is how locals — especially in college-football and hip-hop circles — refer to the state. It became more visible nationally after Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin began using 'Come to the Sip' as a recruiting tagline in 2020. It is informal-only; you will never see it on a state highway sign.
