What does “The Hill” mean
A square-mile neighborhood on a low ridge in south St. Louis settled by northern Italian immigrants in the late 1800s; still the city's center of Italian groceries, bakeries, bocce courts and red-sauce restaurants, and the boyhood neighborhood of Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola. Locals say 'on the Hill' the way other cities say 'in Little Italy.'
