A blend of Manchester and Las Vegas, originally a wink at the illegal video-poker machines that quietly paid out in city pizza joints and bars in the late 1980s. After a police crackdown the name stuck as self-deprecating shorthand for Manchester's modest nightlife. Now used affectionately by locals to mean 'New Hampshire's biggest city, such as it is'.
