What does “where y'at” mean
A characteristic New Orleans greeting, literally 'where are you at?' but functionally 'how are you?'. So tied to the local dialect that speakers of that dialect are themselves called Yats. Common in the Ninth Ward, Irish Channel, and other working-class neighborhoods.
