What does “Sazerac” mean
The Sazerac is a New Orleans cocktail of rye whiskey (originally cognac), Peychaud's bitters, sugar, and an absinthe rinse, served in a chilled glass with a lemon peel. It traces to the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans around 1850, named for the Sazerac-de-Forge et Fils cognac that was its original base. The Louisiana Legislature proclaimed it the official cocktail of New Orleans in 2008, and ordering one is a quiet shibboleth for Crescent City locals.
