What does “meat-and-three” mean
The term originated in Nashville's May Hosiery Mill cafeteria in the 1930s and became the defining Middle Tennessee lunch institution. Classic meats are fried chicken, meatloaf, country-fried steak or country ham; sides span turnip greens, mac and cheese, hush puppies and stewed apples, with cornbread and sweet tea standard. Arnold's Country Kitchen won a James Beard 'America's Classic' award for the form in 2009.
