Hurricane

The Hurricane is a strong, sweet, passion-fruit-and-rum cocktail invented at Pat O'Brien's Bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 1940s. The bar's owner created it to unload surplus rum that distributors forced him to buy alongside scarcer whiskey, pouring it into hurricane-lamp-shaped glasses. The drink remains synonymous with Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras and is largely a New Orleans tourist ritual.
