A meat-and-grain sausage of ground pork (sometimes with beef), steel-cut oats and warm spices, sliced and pan-fried crisp for breakfast. Brought by 19th-century German immigrants from Oldenburg, Hannover and Westphalia as a way to stretch a little meat; the name comes from Low German 'Götte' (groats). Glier's of Covington alone makes about a million pounds a year, almost all of it eaten in Greater Cincinnati.
