What does “pierogi” mean
A boiled / pan-fried dumpling brought by Polish, Ukrainian, and Slovak immigrants to the Steel Belt cities. Canonical in Pittsburgh (Pierogi Race at PNC Park), Cleveland, Buffalo, Chicago, and the New Jersey-Pennsylvania coal country. The Ukrainian cousin is "varenyky" (вареники) — same dish, slightly different shape.
