Michigan left

An at-grade intersection design that bans direct left turns from the main road; drivers instead go through the intersection, U-turn through a median crossover about a quarter mile down, then turn right. Michigan has over 700 of them, almost all on divided boulevards like Telegraph Road. The pattern feels weird to out-of-staters but locals find it faster than waiting through a left-turn arrow.
