What does “branch” mean
In Appalachian usage, a 'branch' is a small stream — usually a tributary of a larger creek. Whole settlements are named for them ('Possum Branch', 'Big Branch'). To outsiders, 'branch' means tree limb; in the mountains, it means running water.
